Tea cup Herend

Hungary, ~1970s. Hand-painted.

This elegant tea duo was crafted by the renowned Herend porcelain manufactory in Hungary. The white porcelain background is adorned with a hand-painted design: stylized cornflowers with red stamens, green leaves, and a delicate red ribbon forming a floral garland. The edges are highlighted with a fine gold line.

This pattern has deep historical roots—original cornflower motifs appeared on European porcelain as early as the 18th century. According to legend, it was a favorite of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, who preferred delicate countryside flowers over lavish bouquets.

Herend adapted this design in the 20th century—artists at the factory, surrounded by Hungarian meadows full of cornflowers, preserved the spirit of simplicity and harmony.

The underside bears the official Herend Hungary Handpainted mark, dating to approximately the 1970s. The pattern code 1726 / PGGC is also present.
